Lantern Festival

The Lantern Festival, also known as Yuan Xiao Festival, marks the first full moon of the new Lunar year. The releasing of lanterns is symbolic of letting go of the past year and welcoming in the new. In celebration of the festival, streets are decorated with colourful lanterns – these are often red as this colour is said to bring good fortune.
